This is also pretty bad on Reddit. I've been called a climate change denier for explaining marine ice sheet instability to a Redditer on one of the climate / environment subreddits. Reddit is a very "I read the headlines, so I know more than you" type of place.

I became a “fossil fuel shill” for correcting an alarmist Tweet claiming “This is the year all sea ice will disappear & Antarctica’s ice shelves will all disintegrate” (in 2020). I was like, “Uhh, no? This isn’t helpful?” and damn the vitriol for “not taking this seriously” was something to behold.
