John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Julian and Kyoko are hospitalised after Lennon crashes their car in Scotland.

Lennon, Ono and Kyoko sustain cuts to the face, and Ono's back is injured. Julian Lennon is treated for shock.

The Beatles perform two shows in Christchurch, New Zealand, their last in that country.

Around 5,000 fans greeted the band as their aeroplane from Dunedin landed in Christchurch. They performed at the Majestic Theatre.

Tickets for the afternoon appearance sell poorly, with just 5,000 fans seeing the Beatles play; the evening show is seen by 10,000.

Eight violins and three cellos are overdubbed onto George Harrison's Sgt Pepper song Within You Without You.

Harrison then recorded his lead vocals and a sitar part, completing the song.
