And by the way whether or not you can see them has way more to do with how much subcutaneous fat you store in the front, which is mostly genetic, not how many crunches you do. Still abs are super important for posture, backpain, lifting heavy objects. Every day is ab day.

Your oblique muscles are a beautifully woven tapestry. Your obliques actually split into layers around your font abs. They span in connective tissue over and under your rectus abdominus muscles, popping them into their own compartment called the rectus sheath.
