I will say "auteurs" in gaming are rare, it's a *very* corporatized art form in terms of the products being recognized as belonging to the company (studio or publisher). Active male auteurs include Sakurai, Kojima, Sakaguchi, Schaeffer, and Levine. Few others, and "active" needs quotes for some.

Levine at the very least leans heavily on his team. To the point of overwork and craziness Ive worked with 2 heavily praised AAA creative heads & chatted with folks that worked with others, & for them can confidently say that great games are a creative tensions between all the people working on it
