I think cloaking yourself in rage and dread and solemnly nodding as you pass the same lessons from the 1930s and 40s back & forth without actually acting is a good way to waste time and sap all of the energy of the people participating. Wallowing around and saying "we're cooked" over and over.

I like those as character concepts more divorced from class. I just think they nailed it with Scribes, and to a lesser extent War. More focus on what the wizard -does- with their scholarly knowledge of magic, rather than the narrow mastery of one specific, small mechanical category.

I wish WotC, when it comes to D&D, would stop trying to push the Wizard specialists. I know Wizards specializing in individual schools of magic is an old, long-running thing but I don't think it works. They clearly have trouble making subclasses based on it that are, you know, balanced and good.
