Agreed. And it’s too often ignored that libraries have taken on extra roles which are needed more and more as other freely accessible third spaces disappear, but do not get additional space for them. This does lead to more weeding than purely professional judgment would indicate.

Bells aren’t much use when the person you’re coming up to is deaf. One of our cities has a lovely shared path for walkers and cyclists but for me it’s a nightmare as cyclists -often going quite fast or in groups- insist on weaving through the walkers.

I hope you can. I’ve been the on call person for a friend and her cat here in Auckland. Mostly it’s been planned to cover travel but it’s been for emergencies / short notice too. If it’s more than a couple of days I go to her place to stay.
