It’s so ridiculous because degree levels are about expertise, not intelligence. Besides, LLMs have no architectural mechanism to support intelligence. Their core mechanism is probability analysis, not reasoning. They in fact aren’t capable of reason.

And in some fields a PhD is as much a sign of tenacity as intelligence. How much is this a signal to the consultants gutting humanities programs that "don't worry, tell them that they don't need to pay those salaries anymore because we can make bot-based Gen Ed."
