overclockers.co.uk used to have an insane RMA policy so when i was looking to get "good RAM" that i could overvolt and overclock the tits out of they'd send me a packet, i'd inspect the chips, not see what i was looking for on the modules, then RMA it saying "huh, wrong product"

cpu fan died on one of my big overclock rigs once and i just had alerts on the screen like "your processor is over 100c". couldn't afford a new cpu cooler so just massively underclocked it and left it running passively with no fan on the cpu. that thing ran at 90c for like 4 weeks.

another time i got a brand new socket A motherboard and the barton core athlon xp 3200+ and was ready to overclock the shit out of it. rig was running well without the overclock. went to make a change in the jumpers and felt a static zap. boom. whole motherboard dead.

more computer stories. i once had a budget rig that i'd massively overclocked. cpu from 1.8ghz to 4ghz and the gpu screamed like a banshee... but you could only run it like that in the winter. ... if the computer was right beside the open window otherwise it'd straight up crash.

no problem. if you want some advice hit me up. it might make you feel better to know they're not *that* delicate. i once accidentally spilled a pint of water into my computer's top vent, yanked the power out immediately, and the whole thing was fine. just a whole pint of water on the gpu.

if it is just an angry GPU reseating should sort you out. it's terrible when your shit is broke and you're like "aaaahhhhh maybe i'll just make it worse" but if you've got some pc builder experience a reseat is just a nice simple on and off thing. you can't make it worse.

also it's got a bunch of different modes. you can make it weaker, stronger, etc. that can be fun. also had some people over for drinks and stuck some music on and threw it into party mode where it listens to the music and changes the lights based on that. just a neat feature.

i will say that it's really rare that it does that stuff though. like this year it's only done that maybe 3-4 times and it was easily fixed by just unplugging and replugging it. maybe it's an uptime thing since it doesn't "switch off" so the system maybe doesn't get a real reboot often enough.

i'm mainly just casting to it, hooking up hdmi, playing switch / ps4, and that's all fine. "normal" tv stuff works fine. apps are a little fucky, i'm not sure i blame philips for it. it's just running android. it's a bit shit when you're watching a movie on the netflix app and it just crashes.

the ambilight system adds to immersion and can be nicer when you've got all the lights off because it also *massively* reduces eye strain. looking at a flat block of light in the dark is really bad for your eyes. you can get 3rd party setups that you install yourself.
