In my defense, I'm used to using everyday language instead of official terminology with non-natives, e.g. 'East Germany' instead of 'the GDR'. I've also seen 'Ermächtigungsgesetz' used in English sources. More importantly, I've never seen the English translation *applied to anywhere but Germany*. 😱

I live near a park and "keep" a couple of small translucent spiders as "pets" to help with the moth problem and some of the cute jumpy ones because they're cute. I do evict the big hairy ones (humanely).

I flicked an earwig off my bed the other day and didn't even bother checking where it scuttled off to. Last week, I woke up to a spider abseiling from the ceiling above me and was thinking "Not now, I need a few more minutes in bed". (He missed the bed and I later saw him moulting on the wall.)

Someone called them "my emotional support tabs" and I can relate. I've moved away from Chrome but I've got a couple of dozen (yeah, I know, rookie numbers) open across Firefox and Brave – mostly related to ADHD and autism, lol. I try to save as much as I can to Pocket and read it on my kobo.

As an in-house translator who is being made redundant because small *and* large companies have stopped paying for translations, I wonder at what point crappy, inconsistent translations become a safety concern. We translate car manuals, among other things. 😬

A lot of texts are just badly written and some translators (and LLMs) mindlessly and religiously translate every "however", "yet" or "on the other hand", etc. even if there is no contradiction to the previous sentence/paragraph. Argh! 😤
