Wait, wasn't that term originally used to describe how minorities are expected to explain why bigotry is ~bad~ instead of the person using Google, which is free? My timeline could be way off, but that's where I first heard it. Not as a way to describe... being a friend.

it was originally used to describe having to perform emotions at work, ie being performatively happy to see customers, etc. So, literally labor, as in you're getting paid for it and probably will be fired if you don't perform sufficiently
