Allowing wealth to be concentrated at the very top has completely broken this society. Consider that it's significantly cheaper for billionaires and corporations to spend millions buying politicians and judges than to pay taxes on their wealth. Capitalism incentivizes this kind of ROI.

It has a compound effect over time. Think about it from their perspective: You spend millions to buy off politicians from both parties to pass neoliberal tax "reform," you end up saving billions, and your wealth grows, giving you more power and influence while the social fabric decays.
