Not GMOs, it was a fingal blight that wiped out that entire variety in the 1950s. Imagine some disease completely took out Granny Smith apples but we still had "green apple" flavoring and other types of apples.

Both an upside and downside of Arena is that you get tokens that can be exchanged for any card. So you can get whatever busted mythics your netdeck needs, but so can everyone else instead of just seeing expensive cards at high-level tournaments. If I see one more One Ring...

MTGArena hooked me back in after 20 years. They give you a whole bunch of preconstructed decks that are legitimately good enough to use, and the f2p card drip is enough to have me interested in brewing.

Though I think some of that is toxic positivity "always find the bright side to any action" where it's after the fact that they were talking about how good Forgiveness is.

There's enough variance in both doctrine and people themselves that I'd avoid making blanket statements, but I've absolutely met people (IRL, not just internet hyperbole personas) who treated the idea of Forgiveness as sacred enough to trivialize the idea of avoiding Sin in the first place.

I love that there have been multiple waves of people discovering that song. It rocked in the 80s, it rocked in Wayne's World, it has rocked every time since.

As a kid I used to leave them in sunbeams to get cool half-and-half lines. Can't do that with these, donno if it's different tech or a different quality of sunlight. Not as many hard sunbeams here.

That would've been in the 70s, for the record. The quippy summary I go with about the weirdness of Jews and ethnicity is "I was born white, my mother wasn't but is white, and my grandpa was never white." But that's just my family.

The only good answer I've come up with to that question is "the white ones are". I asked Dad about it once and he said he got some bigotry when he married Mom but aside from stressing it wasn't from family or other folks I knew he didn't want to talk about it and I had no reason to pry.

It was never my favorite (the puzzles were TOO integrated so as a kid it felt like I wasn't getting anywhere despite solving them while exploring the island) but I might give it a poke. Definitely one I appreciate more in hindsight.

Coke and white grapefruit juice. Add a splash of each to a tall glass of water on a hot day to help it go down easy, or leave it strong to pass it off as a cocktail so the drinkers at the party don't bug you.

The great thing about reading Pratchett at a young age is you miss most of the references and get to discover them on a re-read. When my dad came back from a trip, instead of bringing presents, he'd bring a new joke he found while reading it on the plane.

I had a reaction like that a few days ago. "Why am I baking meatloaf when it's 80 degrees with the AC on?" turns out "because it tastes good" is a good enough reason.

It's excessive gore and torture and jumpscares that usually put me off horror, this movie uses them in moderation and with expertise.

I was so excited to show this to my brother a few decades ago and his reaction was "...I KNOW it's good, but I've seen every single scene in here referenced and parodied so many times it's difficult to get into it." Usually I dislike horror as well but the way this one leans into tension is great.

I'd explicitly put sport hunting (including catch-and-release fishing) over and separate from "we eat what we kill" hunting, but that's mainly my own quibbles.

Half the stuff I try to deal with assumes I'm already part of some system I've never heard of. And it's not that person's job to onboard me, I get why they're frustrated, but "oh you can take care of that through the Wibblethorp portal" is maddening.

Once when I was able to bug my mom to stop at the comic book store while 2 hours away from home I got all four intro comics for the Reign of the Supermen. Next time I was able to do that I got the comic where the whole thing was resolved. Had to intuit everything in between.

My aunt died a few months ago and Uncle's been dealing with calls from all sorts of places because when you do hospital stuff you can have unexpected names on the actual bill when it arrives.
Only tip I could give was "say you're busy at the moment, ask for an extension to call them back."

I grew up in New Mexico and it seemed like there was a huge problem with this. Every morning after a holiday the news would list the dead and injured. Partially the culture, partially these big straight empty desert roads that you could talk yourself into they'd go forever. Then they'd turn.
