Getting important reminders of the importance of not relying unquestioningly on AI - latest is asking ChatGPT questions about the upcoming NFL season and having it hallucinate incorrect game matchups and even putting players on the wrong teams. Critical thinking is still needed.

My worry isn't that AI will take jobs. It's that misguided capitalists will overestimate the AI (or underestimate their people) and rush to profit from the cost-cutting that AI enables by eliminating jobs too broadly. In America stock price too often takes priority over people and culture.

It's important to be data-driven but it's equally important to keep human judgment in the loop. The data can reveal important information but it can't filter that information through your values when it comes to make a decision.

Using Copilot in Teams is a great way to get more out of your meetings. Let Copilot take your notes, recap meetings, identify action items, even suggest next actions or next questions.

Musk wasn't the deciding factor in my choosing a Ford Mustang Mach-E over the Tesla Model Y, but he was one factor.

There's no question his politics (and other antics) are pushing away some buyers. They may be attracting a few others, though most of the vocal Musk supporters I see tend to either already be Tesla fanboys or they're politically conservative and refuse to buy an EV anyhow.

I've been aboard all 4 and it's always a bit disorienting to step aboard one of the other Iowas and feel like "This is my ship! ....but it's not." LOL I took this photo when we had her in dry dock at the end of 2009.

Yeah, I probably should follow Museumships. I've seen it before. I worked on USS Missouri from 2000-2010.

It's really helpful to have #Copilot create that first draft based on my outline or thoughts. Then I can review, edit, and revise. Gets me to the finished product MUCH faster than just typing on a blank page most of the time.

It's truly amazing how many bad tech takes I see in the age of AI. "OMG, Microsoft is training AI on content they find on the open web!" Somehow becomes "They're stealing anything I write in Word!"

This smells vaguely like a company I worked for briefly some years ago. I was wise (or lucky) enough to keep it at arm's length and decline any equity stake so when it inevitably collapsed I was away clean.

Note to self: See if Facebook has disclosed whether the permission settings on your posts (like "Friends only") affects if they train AI with it.

On a podcast this morning I heard somebody say that Copilot (for Microsoft 365) isn't grounded in your documents. 🤔 Mmm unless you're storing your documents in a 3rd party system (and don't have a plugin) that's wrong. Copilot's grounded in the documents you have permission to see.

Got a reminder this morning that Waze isn't infallible. Traffic at a directed turn was SO bad that I actually drove past it and forced Waze to recalculate to a significantly different route. The new route...was 3 minutes faster.

I tried Claude 3.5 and it's fine, though it didn't quite live up to the hype I'm hearing. It couldn't answer one query and hallucinated somewhat on a second query.

Good to see the progress and investment, but we've still got a lot of work to do. #GenAI

This was probably supposed to be the entry point to a #scam, and I had a whole "Die Hard" thing I was going to do...but I got distracted and let it drop.

Beware of "wrong number" text messages. They're often the start of a "Pig butchering" scam. #BeCyberSmart #Cybersecurity

Digital shelf tags make sense to me, though "Raising prices of water and ice cream when it's hot" is good for the retailer, not the customer.

And to be clear, Wendy's denied they were using their digital boards for surge pricing.

High school kids making deep fake nudes of their classmates is bad, no doubt. But just as bad is how often it isn't necessary. When I was coaching high school football I was shocked at how often teen girls send their teen boyfriends salacious photos...and those photos get shared around.

100%. If you want to teach your kid Christianity that's fine. You should do that in your home & church. Not in the public schools that I pay for & my kids attend. Unless we're going to teach ALL religions (including agnosticism and atheism). And even so it should be confined to a theology class

Were I a Louisiana resident and my kid's school complied with this I'd insist they post a prominent marker from some other religion, like Islam or Satanism. Just to force the point.

Hmmm. OK. Maybe you just stated your point poorly in the initial response, leading to some misunderstanding then.

Facebook is overrun with AI created "pages" that are producing true-sounding nonsense to get clicks. There's always been a certain amount of that, but now that the creators can use GenAI to make their posts the volume has risen exponentially. Naturally Facebook does nothing to deter them.

As well they should be. I don't mind newsrooms using AI to HELP draft content, but there should always be human review and oversight.

The trend towards newsrooms replacing real journalists with AI is not a positive one.

Tomorrow is Juneteenth, a holiday that marks the day (more than 2 years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation) that slaves in Texas were finally freed. Learn more here: nmaahc.si.edu/juneteenth

Eh. I started an email thread with a colleague about an issue and then discovered that she'd started a thread with me about the SAME issue like two months ago. Feeling sadly absent-minded ATM.
