getting a (fun) bite in the ass is what we're here for! Did you ever play the AEG version of 7th Sea? They had a great system for this. It granted you extra XP if you let bad guys go instead of killing them.

In our Supers games, we as a player group have A LOT of opinions about carceral justice, and we all grew up on the Claremont run of X-men, so we focus on redemption for baddies. The truly unrepentant ones usually escape, but we've made friends out of nearly every "minion" level villain so far

As a player we generally let people go after extracting a promise not to harass us until after an agreed upon period of time elapses. It's mostly setting and era appropriate to release people 'on parole'. If we don't think the enemies can be trusted then things might get a little Westeros-y.

I think you can do worse as a DM than convincing them to put them in a Bag of Holding and then eventually divert the PCs into a sub-campaign about the inevitable prisoner revolt.

The players are now huddled into Asgard for what they think is a Vatican style intrigue game.

Can't wait until the giant spaceship that's also The Destroyer shows up and annihilates everything and they sit in stunned silence for as the time loop starts it all over again.

If you're familiar with Wild Cards, I think that's a very good template. PHB Sorcerers are your "Aces". But the world will have Deuces and Jokers too.

IMO, you treat Sorcerers exactly like Marvel's mutants. That is, the powers are a very mixed bag for the Sorcerers themselves, and they are overall distrusted and ostracized by non-members.

I'm a fan of asking the PCs to make siblings that have been separated for a while and get called back together for a wedding or other family event like a will reading. High School reunions work well too--nothing pushes people together like the weirdness of "you cant go home again"?

It's an interesting case study in how audiences have changed for comics over the decades. Heroes for Hope in 1985 is one of the most kind and wholesome comics ever made. But this 9/11 stuff, which was written for an audience of adults instead of kids is ... yeah, not the thing.

Further, superhero comics are an escape. Literally no one wants to be stuck at home because they are doing the right thing, and reach for a comic about how their favorite heroes are sitting in their underground bases playing parcheesi.

I would kindly point out that superhero comics are a fantasy, with routine fantastic solutions to problems. No one would be served by COVID being instantly cured by one of dozens of people who can bend reality and transcend space/time.

Favorite TTRPGS 7th Sea - I love the way this game handled Disadvantages, ask me about it I can gush for an hour. Marvel (TSR) - The Universal Table is unbeaten. Maybe the best table ever made for any RPG. Fate - Many games claim to offer a truly narrative system, not many deliver. Fate nails it!

The winning mechanic in Rolemaster for me was OB/DB. In D&D terms, imagine that your To Hit and your AC was 1 pool & each turn you decide a fresh split (with some limits) Shifting the focus away from calculated pre-determined modifiers and into a round-to-round decision is very satisfying for me.

Quality of AI generative content aside, I am just SO thoroughly uninterested in things that are not made by people. All my favorite media is the stuff where you can tell that a person made specific decisions while making it. I want to feel a different person's personality present in it

Getting through a day of work is a harrowing mix of exhaustion from masking and mental stress fractures from making 50 micro decisions per hour. So yes, when I game I like the settings to be put to "Sloppy Annihilation" and I will not be apologizing for it.

Squadron X is Asteroid M's primary defense on their journey into deep space. It is made up of 'Interceptor Circuits' pairs of mutants whose powers combine to make something like a flying TRON cycle.
