Each Rudbeckia flower produces hundreds of seeds. Thousands of seeds fell in the grass in front of the established flowerbed last year. I just mowed in front of them, thus expanding the flowerbed by four feet width more.

As I said last week, ignore the media circus against President Biden. On this 248th Independence Day, declare independence from the repugnant Repubs world view, which includes setting their sights on destroying American democracy.

The most appropriate quote on this 4th of July and for this year and beyond with the crazy Repubs and Trump wanting to shred our Republic and American democracy.

The blackberries serve as the slightly tart flavor needed when you canβt have citrus for balance due to high histamine in citrus. Otherwise, a little lemon would be a nice addition too.

It would also be tasty great as a Mocktail or with Hendricks Gin (or your gin of choice) or Vodka or Lemoncello or as a Spritzer with Prosecco.

Harvested a few hundred wild Blackberries from our acreage at lunchtime. Made my wife and I drinks. Hers is Bacardi Rum, muddled blackberries, agave nectar, fresh mint and club soda. Mine is Casamigos Blanco with muddled blackberries, orange mint, Elderflower syrup and Coconut milk. Splash of soda.π·

I rarely use fertilizers and never use chemicals (no pesticides, no herbicides and no fungicides). And we use organic soil. I might use organic fertilizer pellets on some roses.

Harvest your Zinnia seeds. Free plants that bloom all summer until the first freeze of fall. And then harvest again year after year. Share with neighbors and friends. Dried flowers make for nice color inside in the winter too.

Yes. I see them in public places too. Grab a dead flower head. Let it completely dry. Shake in a covered tin can to dislodge the seeds.

Came back from our two week college tour to lots of flowers (and weeds). From an eight foot curve of Rudbeckia to seven foot tall Fennel (a favorite host plant for Black Swallowtails) to giant white Echinacea and perfectly pink Garden Phlox.
