At the time, people hated MLK by the same 2:1 (60/30-ish) margin. Vietnam protesters were reviled, same with all civil rights protests. Justice is an unpopular thing and you gotta drag the masses along kicking and screaming bc this country, and our white culture, was founded on bloodshed.
