I might just replace the battery in my SE (2nd gen) so I can keep Touch ID/physical home button & avoid AI indefinitely.

I’m with you. I might ask an Apple store to replace my battery. I’ve thought about making one final jump to the 2nd Gen SE, but I like that my 6s has a headphone jack. Other than that, it looks like a very good phone. Maybe the only other Apple model I would consider.
