From the perspective of observing animal behavior (and recording from their brains) it seems clear that animals (such as rats) "think" in some way. They appear to deliberate, evaluate alternatives, have the brain correlates of episodic memory. What's the criterion for 'thinking'?

Doesn't this have implications for the "we have no free will" folks who base that on internal narratives and "sense of action" studies?
