So after another 30 minutes of moving tracks and decoupling an engine, we dipped out of there and got to the station only six and a half hours late! ☹️

Then I guess they just decided to say "screw it" and told us that we were going to be moving over to the track the freight train just left, transferring one of our Amtrak engines over to the broken train and then just leaving them to figure it out and heading out.

They had a spare air pipe that was compatible with our train, but after sitting on the new train for forty-five-ish minutes, they announced that they were still having issues with the computer systems of the two trains working together and then the freight train just straight left.

Eventually a second Amtrak train came up behind us (cause we were delayed so long the second southbound train departed and had caught up to us) and they decided to move everyone off our train and over to the second train's lounge car because they had power and working bathrooms and air conditioning.

At first the conductor would try to corral them back on board, but eventually they switched over to "I can't stop you, please don't walk on the tracks."

Turns out a big metal tube sitting out in the sun with no air conditioning gets pretty hot pretty quickly. People just started hopping off the train and walking away with their luggage towards the nearest road and hopefully an Uber or something.

And none of them were working, and our train had no power, so the air conditioning was off, the bathrooms weren't flushing, and none of the outlets could charge anything, so things were getting pretty miserable.

So then we and the freight train, which had pulled up on the other set of tracks and had decoupled one of its engines to switch over to the track where we were sitting and attach to us to pull us into the station, were just sitting there for another hour and a half trying different things.

Had to sit there for almost an hour before a freight train stopped to help, but apparently the air escaped the breaks in our train and the freight train didn't have a compatible connection to share air so they couldn't get our breaks to unlock.

Had a wild experience on Amtrak yesterday. Train broke down 3/4 of the way through the trip and they absolutely could not get it to start up again no matter what they tried.

I love being in work meetings where people are discussing how to change certain things, and they all agree that it will be a little harder and more complicated, but that it'll be "worth it" lol. Especially when I can see exactly how much more work it's gonna be for me personally.
