I recently started listening to Paul Giamatti's podcast Chinwag and he's a riot. Co-host is a philosophy professor, and they talk with a vast array of people--the first 10 eps include actors/comedians, a former FBI criminal profiler, a former DA, an Egyptologist, and the Long Island medium.

I used to work a 16 every once in a while back when I was a security guard at an acute care hospital. Of course, the hospital was not open while being renovated, I was barely paid minimum wage, and I didn't care about my job, so it was more like an 8-4-4 where I took a quick nap in a patient room.

There's a local butcher/grocer by me that made a culatello last year that was to die for. It cost like $50/lb, but I'd have paid twice that (...and ordered half as much because even I'm not spending that much on delicious cured meats!)

All that to say, dealing with the short term cognitive impairment and that recovery left me stressed out and exhausted, and that was only a few months. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it is to have to watch someone suffer with Alzheimer's. Hoping for the best with this news!

Last year my dad ended up in the hospital after turning septic from a diabetic ulcer on his foot. He was in there for about 2 weeks before being sent to a rehab facility for 3 more, getting released, then another infection led to a toe amputation, and the same on the other foot soon thereafter.

The dumbest thing about the "death panels" is that's basically what private insurance does. They decide what procedures/medications to cover, but somehow it's different because the ACA would have evil unelected bureaucrats. I'm still trying to figure out when the insurance bureaucrats got elected...
