we wait for the last gasp of American democracy and hope to carve out something salvageable? I dunno. But now the democrats aren't even bothering to offer promises before ghoulishling pointing to the corpse of Democracy and demanding money to make it rot maybe not as fast.

Are you serious? That's been a common thing forever. There's also a ton of people speaking up to "You gotta vote for him!" any time anyone dares question or push back on Biden. Like literally this! All the time!

not what I said. But many of us are tired of the "just vote!" "give money!" rhetoric. ESPECIALLY in direct and immediate response to fascism. Because it seems very clear that The Democrats just shrug and think "Well, if trump wins, it'll be great for our next campaign."

I moved here in 2008. Going from Long Island where the trains run basically all night to this was jarring. Was on a 4-12 shift and had to leave early to make a train home. First day I missed it, had to take wrong line, and walk a mile and a half.

I usually say "just outside of Queens" to be fair. Only to people west of there though. Sometimes I'll still say "just outside of NYC" now that I live in Jersey too.

Yup, the biggest impediment to fully automated cars/taxis/buses on streets designed for them safely is that cops would lose the right to arbitrarily pull over and search any car for 'any reason'.

The 'solutions' are better designed intersections, streets, mass transit, tunnels/passageways, re-engineering how spaces are used in general, transition to a mass-transit fully automated system on the streets with no human drivers at all. you know, simple stuff.

there's a low bar for policy because politicians are terrible, as we see, as they haven't quite "passed" this yet either. And not talking about policy, just in general. The people that wonder about the x% of 4% of drivers (a lot of people, plus non NYC) is still valid even if it shouldn't stop it

your chart confirms there are poor people that commute to Manhattan by car? (plus, you know, all the non-borough people) We're past the point of debate and this should just be instituted, but I don't think it's absurd to ponder if maybe there was a better way to fund the MTA, or income exemptions.
