Former MI6 chief Sir Alex Younger to ITV: “Putin would’ve been absolutely delighted by our decision (to leave the EU) and so would Xi.” “Particularly since I've left office and I've travelled around Europe, I'm profoundly depressed. Just nobody mentions the UK. We've made ourselves irrelevant.”

Can you provide a link to his full interview/statement. I recall him saying in interview a few years ago that Russia and China did not create the divides in our society, but merely widened the gaps. He always seems quite thoughtful.

I feel for the plight of the citizenry, but this outcome is kinda hilarious after the damage to the world that British colonialism has done.

I think Brexit was a terrible idea, but it may be responsible for keeping far-right parties at bay because the people do not like the taste of their new 'freedom'. I guess we'll see how Reform UK goes in the election. 🤔

Since Putin probably had a great deal to do with the decision to leave (made by some) he would only be being glad that his methods had worked. The question is . . . what is he up to now ?

This is why the idea that we should make re-joining a priority is a bit weird to me. The UK is not what it was when it was in the EU (it's lesser), and the EU is not what it was when the UK left (it's a lot more right). Is it really the best place to expend political time and energy?

Looking forward to moving back to the EU next year. We decided last year it was time to go. Looking forward to liquifying our assets, moving our pension and claiming our pension from the UK government when it’s due. The vast majority of Brits are great but the loud minority are hateful w⚓️s.

How is the voting going? I do hope that the Tories get their asses handed to them.

god knows why Starmer said "never in my lifetime". My fear is that if the Far Right get in here, Europe will cease to exist. Game set and match to Vlad. Do people have no memories or knowledge of history?

David Omand ex GCHQ Director in his book, How Spies Think, “When an opportunity arose to weaken the political cohesion of the EU, it would surprising if Russia had not considered how it might find ways of nudging the process, whether by covert funding, agents of influence, or useful idiots”

A UK that is irrelevant = fewer brown people killed by UK weapons = very good.

The main arguments for Brexit were 1) ending uncontrolled immigration & 2) adding immense wealth to the UK. So, it all turned well.

To be fair, even before leaving you were way less relevant than you thought. It was this post-imperial delusion of self-importance that lead you to leave in the first place. But correct, even less relevant now. Supporting Ukraine is the only truly important thing you've been up to.
