It feels like poor political calculus on the DA's part — alienating the coalition that got him elected. And guranteeing that victims will now turn to the press to have their stories told rather than trusting the process — which is going to make Gascon look really bad.

Yeah he’s pretty savvy so I’m guessing the play is to keep peace with big donors who’d launch another recall effort with the assumption that when it’s time to politic again there won’t be anyone challenging him to his left. It’s the all too common “lesser evil” play
