Spot on. Some people talk like you could just plug another candidate in for an instant improvement but there are so many variables. Seems like there are maybe 10-20 people who actually know enough to make an informed decision and they're not talking publicly.

What are the points? They seem to have galvanized Biden to stay in more than anything so far.

To wit, here's Ron Brownstein: "...by digging in despite clear red flags, Biden & D leaders are gambling not only w/the WH but also control of the Senate thru this decade-& with that control of #SCOTUS for the next generation"

As if all the alternatives were free of "clear red flags."?!

That's a very good point. Although at the NYT Kahn and Sulzberger have a well-documented animus towards Biden for not kissing the ring.

AOC also an extremely effective and measured questioner of witnesses in committee hearings. Incredibly well prepared, focused, and unearths new info.

Welcome to the New York Times political coverage, where smears they infer in their headlines are debunked by public documents they link to in their article.

I've also seen keepers throw the water bottle of the opposing keeper into the stands right before a penalty kick shootout.

Absolutely. We do what we want, then we add words. The idea there's any coherent thought beyond that in these decisions is utterly naive.

You deserved it! But too bad Türkiye could not go through as well instead of one of the less gutsy sides. Seems like a lot of teams were playing not to lose in the quarters. You and Türkiye played with a lot of heart. Great match. Good luck!

Indeed. FYI: Biden spox Andrew Bates said the report is totally false and they were given only 7 minutes to respond. Also, this is Katie Rogers.

True enough. But Lloyd was referring to the internal team psychology. I should have been more specific. She said something along the lines of "we hated our coaches but won the World Cup." The guys love Gregg. Which is maybe part of the problem. They should be fighting for their starts, etc.

Don’t disagree but most of the starters play in top leagues in Europe already. Berhalter is tactically way too limited, does not know how to make the players cohere, and as Carli Lloyd said yesterday team is entirely too comfortable.

Well if the majority really does want to drag the judicial into it and go to all the trouble of impaneling juries, why not just charge CEOs who crime criminally?

Great, so let's put corporate chiefs who break the law on trial in criminal courts instead, like they do in the EU, and jail them if found guilty. I imagine it will be more effective at curbing lawbreaking than fines, which are paid by shareholders and consumers anyway.

"'flawed vessel' for God’s will." = "best shot in our lifetime" for a christo-fascist police state. Hypocrisy is not even going to be a speed bump with that in play.

The Washington Post sat on the Alito flag scandal for more than two years until other outlets reported it. This Thomas disclosure doesn't happen without Pro Publica. The Supreme Court is less than 2 miles from the WaPo offices. It's DC. They should own this. I'm supporting independent media.

I appreciate your politeness, and have no doubt you can find stories that do serve the public interest but do you think for instance the NYT coverage of Biden/TFG has served the pubic interest? I think it has not, and for institutional reasons and at a very bad moment and that is a huge problem.

Agreed, but from a common citizen's POV, the NYT and WaPo, despite reporting only they can do because of scale, are also failing the public at a critical moment, and my fear is there are institutional reasons why that can't be fixed. Hence supporting those who can step up. Media may be changing.

Not to belabor this (while belaboring) orgs like PP (or TPM) HAVE to pick and choose, and if they had more $$ they could choose more, and cover more of the true public interest functions that the Post and NYT no longer can or will, for lots of reasons which you certainly know more about then I.

I don't disagree in principle. More great journalism is better for a democratic society! And if I had unlimited funds that would be one thing. For now, I'm diverting my few WaPo $$ from what is looking like a Murdoch-ridden cesspit to PP, which broke some of the Supreme Court corruption stories.
