I think it’s because people conflate the people they see on the streets in downtown areas with the homeless problem. They are just a small part of it and yes they skew towards mentally ill and addicted.

They had political problems with it as well as freedom-based concerns. Massachusetts had a different established state religion than Maryland, they didn’t want the federal government to pick one winner over another, otherwise the Constitution wouldn’t work. Same thing with WHICH 10 Commandments.

Yes, but we Catholics have a different set of commandments. Why would support Prostestant ones? The Jewish 10 commandments are also different, as are the eastern Orthodox ones. Footnote 3 of the 11th Circuit decision on the Roy Moore 10 commandments case is pretty good on this. 335 F. 3D 1282
