If your measure of success is a revolution you are destined to be disappointed (even if/when the revolution comes and you discover revolution is just a sexy word for war). But there are millions of people whose lives have been saved or dramatically improved by policy wins of the last 20+ years

People who gained access to healthcare, or housing or who were able to get enough to eat, etc. That stuff is not part of the rhetoric and flies below the radar but it is the only reason to actually do this work.
