These are extremely difficult, dangerous, and bad times, and simple fact is we didn't have to come to this; but we don't have to stay here either.

I vote for "Give me that Vitamin D" a la Beyonce but open to other ideas.

I agree. My work focuses on demystifying this stuff for people who want to engage but aren't interested in making this their whole lives. Too many of us are yelling at each other on here instead of doing the necessary outreach. Feel free to DM me if I can ever be useful!

100%! I certainly don't blame anyone. I think round the clock organizing and just plain community building is vital. That's why I suggested you engage locally in groups doing that work. I recommend a book called Rust Belt Union Blues to get a sense of what this looked like in the union context.

People who gained access to healthcare, or housing or who were able to get enough to eat, etc. That stuff is not part of the rhetoric and flies below the radar but it is the only reason to actually do this work.

If your measure of success is a revolution you are destined to be disappointed (even if/when the revolution comes and you discover revolution is just a sexy word for war). But there are millions of people whose lives have been saved or dramatically improved by policy wins of the last 20+ years

Well, part of the issue is not enough folks took that advice. A world where Gore won in 2020 or Clinton won in 2016 is one where Roe is still the law of the land and federal agencies still have power. But beyond that, the implication is nothing has changed for the better and that's just not true--

There are a ton of other tasks for us introverts--data entry, event set-up/break down, offering rides to the polls, etc. And you don't have to figure it out alone. If you connect with an org on the ground, they can help you find the overlap of things you can do comfortably/things they need.

It is insufficient! It is also necessary. If you're genuinely looking for ways to do the other necessary things, look for local groups that are engaged in organizing in your community (can try idealist.org or volunteer match as starting points). Engage in policy advocacy at local/state level.

nothing is inevitable but the heat death of the universe, & everything can be changed, with the right combination of communication & communal effort.
Some people are overwhelmed & despair of these things because they genuinely don't see a light anywhere, & we should help each other find that light…

The only obstacle between the U.S. and autocracy this fall is you, me, and everyone physically, mentally and legally able to cast a ballot.

When I lived in NYC, several times a year I would go to the Neue Galerie (for both new pieces and my faves from the perma collection), sit in their 19thc Austria-themed cafe and have the only pretzel I've ever loved with mustard and sausage, and then walk across the park to finish the day at the Met

i have so much boundless contempt for these pathetic white men, who were blessed enough to be born in one of the few attempts at multiracial democracy in the world, and who panic at being no more valued than anyone else to the extent that they'd blow it all up and go back to divine right of kings
