Clooney was on ER. Those early seasons were really good. Patrick Dempsey was on Grey’s Anatomy. I have never seen a full episode of this show either despite its 20 year (and still going?!?!) run.

We’re just gonna celebrate Karate Kid today by posting a whole page. A demonstration of Val Armorr’s will, his focus, and the physical strength he spent a lifetime developing. Art by Steve Lightle over rough Giffen breakdowns. Legion of Super-Heroes #4 (1984) #LongLiveTheLegion

Yeah, that’s true. It’s one of the best superhero deaths I can think of.

It’s Super-Heroes vs Super-Villains this issue as we welcome artist Steve Lightle to the title! He penciled over some rough layouts I believe, as Keith Giffen is credited as “designer” on this issue. Legion of Super-Heroes #3 (1984) #LongLiveTheLegion

I love these bits of humor just dropped in to the side of a panel. Levitz and Giffen are masters at this kind of comedy.

Not a complete roster of the new Legion of Super-Villains but an interesting one as Giffen homages Leonardo da Vinci’s mural painting of The Last Supper. Legion of Super-Heroes #2 (1984) #LongLiveTheLegion

Spectre 1992-98. Was there another series that routinely had such mind-blowing covers month after month for years?

Can you name all the Legionnaires represented by their insignias on this medieval stone wheel? And secondly, which of the super villains do you think took the time to carve this thing? Legion of Super-Heroes #1 (1984) #LongLiveTheLegion

#NowWatching Man’s Favorite Sport?

As much as I love watching classic movies, Rock Hudson films have always been a blind spot for me. After watching Pillow Talk two weeks ago, and now this, maybe I’m finally doing something about that!

I even told my son, with the steak cubed, it wouldn’t take that long to grill. And then I still left it too long. Just a dumb move on my part. With full size steaks I usually check one with a thermometer because my wife is very picky. 😆

The shrimp and veggies were delicious but I second guessed myself on the time for the steak and they ended up a little too dry. Still tasty but I should have taken them off at the same time as the shrimp. I would rather they lean a little more rare than well done.

Truth. I’m gonna feel robbed if we don’t get the Japan story out of this return for Robinson and Harris though. So fingers crossed.

That was supposed to be a fully painted story by Harris. The fact that the article mentions a colorist is the only thing that gives me pause in regards to it being the Japan story.

The Special includes a letter’s page written exclusively by Paul Levitz where he explains how the whimsical one-shot got its genesis. Plus a blueprint of the Subs’ Clubhouse which was the “real” Legion’s original HQ. Everyone loves a blueprint! #LongLiveTheLegion

And here’s the plot. Matter/Eater Lad is requesting the Subs help on Bismoll on a hunch that something will go wrong thanks to a new bill that was “ingested into law” converting their global economy over to computers. The sight gags in this book are numerous and hilarious.

The origin of the Subs as sung by an alien shape-shifting Protean bard. Credit to Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen for this amusing opening that sets the tone for the whole Legion of Substitute-Heroes Special (1985) #LongLiveTheLegion

Gah! Every single month this book is SO DANG GOOD! I mean here he is, the writer @ryannorth.ca saddled with a company wide crossover, but he uses it as a vehicle for an engaging day of conversation between Alicia and Reed.
Nobody does that.
Nobody has EVER done that!
I love it!

I think the only comic I didn’t get totally on board with of his was Next Men. I kept buying it because I loved his art but the story never grabbed me. Too bad because I really enjoyed the 2112 one-shot setup.

Sucker? I don’t know what you’re talking about. That’s a perfectly reasonable purchase. Knowing it existed, the arcade console would have seemed incomplete without the stool. Not purchasing it would have haunted you forever more! Plus, yeah, I’m old too.

No. Art is subjective, so your opinion is valid. I love most all his work but have a few asterisks myself… usually involving Byrne trying too hard to resolve continuity errors.
