The man and his work get painted as a “vibe”, when meanwhile it’s actually complex textured storytelling. He threw out so much of his old work because he felt it was disrespectful to ape the style of other cartoonists and animators. He fucking hates Walt Disney, just totally hates him.

Yeah the association of the studio name with twee cottagecore “wholesome” vibes is almost funny except that it’s appalling, like okay so you’ve only seen Kiki, made some real assumptions about the rest of the body of his work, and didn’t pick up what he was putting down even in that one? Noted

I like the work, don't like the man-but not for any moral reasons. He just seems like a huge asshole. And to be honest, that's fine-him being an asshole doesn't preclude him taking moral stances I agree with. I just wouldn't want to try hanging out with him.
