Not to defend or denigrate any of the movies, maybe lineage and family are an important part of the Star Wars mythos as defined by the guy who created it? I have no idea if JJA is an aristo or a pleb - but maybe he was just calling on themes that were a visible part of the world of the story?

Moving past that lineage is also part of that. The Skywalkers exist in a tiny slice of the history of the universe Lucas created.

It is. Which is why the message of 7 was all about questioning the past, questioning tradition, and moving forward. Kylo was there, for the continuation of family and legacy, and a better end for him would have involved an actual redemption where he came to reckon with how he ruined that.
