If I had to come up with a solution for Dems to get a new VP through the house, it would be exploiting GOP divisions over annual funding bills -- just like last year, there's a hard-right faction opposed to any budget deal with the Senate or Biden, even if it leads to a government shutdown.

So, if Jeffries etc. want to play hardball, their leverage is to withhold D support for Johnson on either the eventual compromise budget, or a subsequent motion to vacate the speakership, unless he allows the VP confirmation to advance.
