So is Arthur C Clarke’s process from 2010 for making Jupiter fuse possible? As I understood it, it was increasing Jupiter’s density but not its mass. (“Possible” here assumes the basically magic technology of changing the elements into denser ones as a given.)

I think the main problem isn't density (you rapidly chill it, and maybe add outside pressure from the magitechnology of the monolith; you want to keep the lighter elements, denser ones are worse for fusion) but keeping it from being a really, really big hydrogen bomb when it does ignite?
