I still never understood it. People would be like “but you have to admit he’s entertaining! He’s great television!” And I’d be like “what are you TALKING about, I would rather eat my own toe that watch this…person.”

It was likely because they were just as disgusting and vile as Trump was. I mean we called racist bigots like Rudy Giuliani heroes and idolized greedy thugs like Michael Bloomberg, Warren Buffet and well... you know who. Surprisingly, they all come from staunch liberal New York where I come from.
