I choose to view her that way, as do many trans people! Princess Ozma was turned into a boy as a baby, to hide her from Glinda, and was only changed back to her true gender some years later.

Dorothy’s not in the book at all, and they reassigned a lot of Tip’s story to her. But also, it’s got elements of other books, too; it heavily borrows both characters and plot from the book “Ozma of Oz.” So it’s Ozma’s first TWO stories, almost entirely without her. I think she got did dirty there.

My problem with it isn’t that it’s trimmed down, it’s that it completely strips out the gender thing, which to me was the hook. (This may be different if you’re cis.)

i like having a record player for all the usual cornball music nerd reasons but also because ‘one side of a record’ is a perfect timer. doing all the dishes takes about one side of a record, so does catching up on emails. it’s the ideal amount of time to work OR procrastinate!

I thought I’d do lower surgery and be done—I was paying off a medical loan for years, though that was totally worth it. But then I made more money than I thought I was ever going to, so I threw a bunch of it at my remaining dysphoria.

To me the entire point was to be me as a girl, which is why I’m still D.C. Simpson, just standing for something else, instead of like Emily Dash or some other cool name. It was the culmination of a lifelong process of becoming me, not a complete do-over. Of course it’s different for everyone.

Phoebe was created under a development contract that I won in a talent search contest. So the challenge was coming up with a concept that I was passionate about making, that my syndicate/publisher also thought they could sell. It took a while but I truly love the result.

I certainly try not to judge other artists for making, or not making, things. I, too, am doing it for myself. I always have been. (But also it does complicate things that if I keep doing Phoebe they’ll keep driving dumptrucks of money to my house.)
