I think about this a lot wrt musicians who were in the 27 Club.
Considering the vastly different life paths that Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic took, it's not insane to imagine a really unhinged 50 year old Kurt Cobain.

I love her how friend IRL was like "ew this is gross wtf is wrong with you" and she proudly touted that as some sort of proof rather than stopping to be like "wait, am I being insane?"

Bill Burr has bit about how it's easy for the average person to judge but most people are not equipped to deal with the absolute avalanche of propositions and advances that come w/ fame
(He doesn't put it delicately nor does he mention minors tho. Yikes!)

I legitimately had to look around for a while before I understood that what they're mad at is the picture shown here; I thought that was a clickbait/placeholder to get you into the article and the REAL design was something different

My mother used to work as a pediatric doctor and she was firm in her conviction that the difference between 30 kmph & 50 kmph (school zone vs city driving speeds in Canada) was the life and death difference when a child is struck by a car.
30 kmph you've got an injured child
50 and they're dead

I think the most apt comparison might end up being the Tet Offensive from the Vietnam war: an act (or acts) that technically failed and caused massive long term loss of life for the aggressor, but ultimately something that shook the resolve of the larger power and spelled the end of support.

If it's not 100% clear, my frustration is with the state of the industry, not with Jason or his reporting, whose insights are always welcome & interesting.

We have a small dog that my wife likes to let off leash and I tell her that it's as much for our dog's protection as anything; if there's a sketchy or aggressive dog around, I want to be able to pull my dog back ASAP

To be clear, my point is not to pick out any faults or shortcomings in your reporting, it's just maddening in general. As you say, it must be all the more frustrating to be one of the developers (or even executives) that's just trying to make it all work.

It's not a bad thing and again, I always love to read Jason's reporting, but it's often frustrating that the issues with large tech and gaming companies come down to Occam's razor.
