ISO-8601 is the international Date Format which sorts it from Year-Month-Day-Hour-Minute-Second-Etc which lines up with this and is the most efficient.

In the state of Wyoming, it's an additional fee so it's an apples to apples comparison (Showing Laramie County's website because vehicle registration is by county clerks)

I think that's more of an efficiency punishment. My 2006 Jeep Liberty gets ~17mpg so that's $200/.38=526 gal/tax and 8949 miles using your math above. I keep seeing Semis as "6.5 mpg" as a number which would really bring in the dough.

Wyoming it's $200 for EV charge and as of June 30 it's $0.38/gal That fuel tax is mostly coming from people traveling down I-80 or going to Yellowstone/Teton which is why this is a major concern for WY I think.

They would be though since again bigger batteries. In the mean time they're also diesel only which means you can bump the fuel tax for diesel specifically and not affect gas or EVs.

That's why I think "both" is fine. If you do it on fast charge time (either by minute or kW) and your resident flat fee, it keeps it cheaper for locals (making them want to switch) and since bigger EVs have bigger batteries it appropriately sizes the tax.

Absolutely! The biggest thing is just how it's resident only which if you're a tourist hotspot is a lot of unpaid wear and tear.

Plus the EV registration tax is setting up another divide too, since unlike a fuel tax it means residents only are paying for roads. If I had a suggestion it would be that they leave the registration tax (which against fuel $.38/gal is cheaper for EVs) and add a Fast Charger tax for travelers.

I've got a friend in Denver who is definitely in the "I'd have an EV but I rent" camp and my (eventual EV ownership) is one of the reasons I bought my first house too.

This curve will level out eventually, because such curves must in a finite world, and when it does, the usual outlets will frame it as “solar’s good times are over” or whatever. We’re living through some very bad things, but also one of the most widely beneficial rollouts of any technology ever.

These turned out great. Zap somehow made extras of the one-offs (fanon!Thrax, Kaelli, Vilcor, Octavia) but ah well. Highly recommend them for sure. If I ever do another run of the Courtiers -and that's a huge IF-, they'll be my go-to for sure. #warframe

I completely agree. I was meaning more that (rumor has it) the 45 mile distance between Cheyenne and Laramie or Cheyenne and Fort Collins was specifically because of rail requirements originally. Obviously a lot less required for charging than filling steam trains but it's an amusing echo of that

There's also a point of "okay but is it cutting off your nose to spite your face" since WYDOT has rest stops along the interstates and they have to maintain those already...

Which is also the argument Wyoming DOT is saying against the Biden distance requirement. Basically "There's too much nowhere every 50 miles regularly on I-25 and I-80" Which is extra fun since a lot of towns (including Cheyenne) were started strictly for rail infrastructure originally.

I think not enough people are aware that Hydrogen can work as both a fuel and an electrolyte, and it's going to be amazing and weird if we can ever find some cool use cases for both. (Not to mention the DOE "Hydrogen Shot" which will supposedly get $1/kg hydrogen by 2031)

Wyoming we have voting machines but they spit out a paper scan card with the English of what those votes are. So basically it's so anybody from any district can go to the appropriate vote location, and it'll automatically pull up the proper elections and measures. It's worse now because of the SOS

I live in the (relative) middle of nowhere, and I absolutely would looooove Train as an option. Just the fact if I want to catch a flight, I have to drive 2 hours, figure out parking in Denver, and then fly. If I could catch a train from Cheyenne or FoCo it would be nice! Come on Frontrange rail!

Also while "I just picked a direction and went" sounds tempting I don't know anybody who actually does that with gas cars anyways. Like growing up driving from Cheyenne to Portland, my grandparents had AAA maps and stopped reliably at the same locations every time.

Yeah, I think it's worse for tech/review channels too. Gamers Nexus now has a (awesome) website where they do articles of their videos and share their data (which makes it more parseable for sharing info than giving a youtube with a timestamp) but like so few people know about normal sites. It's odd

Like you're not talking about Aztec specifically (I mean you are) but you're saying this is how old timey Pinball machines in general did their mechanics and score calculation. It's not like you're a repair/restoration channel doing that exact item.

I was meaning more that it's a both ways thing. You don't share the information, they ask for it. Mat shares the information, they ask for it anyways. I would say that a reference in the description is better than not, but it's not a requirement for you since your whole thing is "as a concept"

I agree with both. I mean I have lost count how many times I've seen "MORE INFORMATION IN THE DESCRIPTION" frustratingly replied by Mat in the average Techmoan comments section.

That sort of reminds me of the new Death on the Nile. It's set in the 20s so not much they can do, but then like they have this huge necklace that in every shot it's in goes out of its way to show the Tiffany box.

That's fair but I was meaning that it seems like they have a wider distribution. Like if I wanted to take a train from Cheyenne WY, I'd have to drive to Denver, then that basically goes only to the coasts!

I mean we already know how to recycle batteries, so I would say the point remains. The difference is that the processing price and incentive isn't there yet, and without subsidies it's subject to the market (which will not because it's more expensive) Really just need a core charge like Lead Acid

Oh definitely. (I think that was the Alcoa process?) But that's more on the price of electricity being cheaper and more sustainable which made aluminum from a luxury metal to a cheap good we recycle or throw away.

Das Ganon's avatar Das Ganon @dasganon.bsky.social

I mean I'd say aluminum is actually a bad example that makes it a good example. It was super expensive to extract which is why it was used for the Washington Monument cap and Napoleon's flatware. But that meant that recycling it was cheaper/better than extraction for the longest time.

The one I've been laughing my ass on today, it's a short video, it's just a lil' bird standing in the dirt, but that's not the funny bit. It's all in the audio. It's the chorus to a song, and instead of the "yeah" originally there, it's the bird doing the tiniest sort of kazoo noise "meep" to time.

I have one, but it came with the car and is the whole reason I have the car. No, not like that. When they were installing it, the then owner found the floorboards were swiss cheese, so he sold it (minus engine) for $100. I don't hate it, but it's also not my choice and not my daily.

Especially now that EVs are still a minority of vehicles in the road. If you're driving an EV right now you're probably more on the "early adopter" side than most people and you're going to want to do research on how it works and how to protect it Wait until we see 6th owner "my first cars"

Plus (and this is just a car in general thing) you don't know what the condition of the car is. Is it perfectly maintained with brand new tires the moment the tread is low or is it "an A to B thing and when it dies I buy a new one"? Poor maintenance of any car scares me more than EVs

I will say that a lot of consumer stainless (like faucets and dishwashers) will all say they've got some "Anti Fingerprint coating" that works to varying degrees. Unlike the "I can afford anything but polygons" truck.
