One other thing... The evangelicals from the south had a great migration to the Midwest and Northwest which is why so many of those States are conservative now. To be clear, these people were Democrats founded in racism and oppression, and they still are.

It may be true that Mississippi is more Republican now than it was in 2012, but that trend began in the 1980s with the southern strategy. In essence the southern Democrats, who were extremely right wing switched over to the Republican party.

States that wish to have religiously based authoritarian governments should be able to establish an independent country. If people live in these particular states and want to leave, they should receive assistance to do so.

I would agree with that as an issue if we did anything at all to protect children now. Parents say they are home schooling their children without the government providing any oversight at all. Children are treated as the property of their parents.

There are a great number of states that have a liberal democracy and there are a lot of states with plenty of open space. I also assume that many people who live in liberal states would jump on the chance to leave.

If there were no state of Alabama then there wouldn't be a reason to have the same discussions about abortion and climate change and gay rights and separation of church and state over and over again.
