I really want to write about what average folks can do to become more resilient in the face of violent weather. I interviewed an emergency services manager in NE Alabama, and would like to talk to someone in AZ, and someone from the national weather service. Wish the story would get assigned 😀

We are also struggling with black walnut trees. I love them, but they are trying to grow along the road and under the power lines. They are also springing up all in my flower garden. I don't wanna cut them down, but am going to (before they are massive)

For awhile FB kept showing me house plans for tiny houses very obviously designed by AI. One had a wood stove in the kitchen that vented into the loft/bedroom. Most of them had stairs to nowhere. Some had 5 couches. They fascinated me in the weirdest way.

Went for a walk. It was a stroll at best, with shady sections. I was only out for about 40 minutes and my watch says it's 85 degrees here (dew point is 64). I'm now drenched and worried about everyone who works outside, especially in places where it's significantly hotter.

I might be closer to getting an EV than I thought! I'd hoped for some time in 3-5 years, but I just found out that used Mini Cooper SEs are ~$20k AND qualify for the $4k tax credit. I'd have to do lvl 1 charging at home because we need to upgrade our electrical, but it looks possible.

I saw a post from a conservative acquaintance a few days ago that said “isn’t it funny if you see an American flag on a house you know who they are voting for?” And it really bothered me and made me want to get a flag 😂

My husband works at a sawmill, and builds live edge furniture, and I'm a content marketer, and your article speaks directly to both of us. His company (it's just him and the owner) has declined jobs for epoxy tables. I'm terrified of not being able to earn a living anymore.

Whew. Getting back to work after a week of deadlines, followed by a long weekend is difficult. I have about 4000 annoying, fiddly tasks to do and none of them is even slightly appealing. Sometimes it feels like holidays are a lot of effort.

It might be pretty, but it's also trying to kill me. Privet is an incredibly successful invasive, which smells awful, gives me horrible headaches and sometimes hives. When you chop it with the loppers it says, "OH THANK YOU! Now I can grow more!" It also has a vast, stubborn root system.

I’ve been adding hobbies lately—and trying to make them a different kind of creative thing, like I’m trying to learn to play the flute, and to quilt. I also spend time outside, walking gardening or just sitting. I try to do yoga but I’m not very consistent.

We always have a chilly spell in mid-May in Tennessee. It's here, and all I want to do is curl up on the sofa with a blanket and a hot drink, and finish reading The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. Alas. I have to go to the real-life, hellish grocery store.

I started listening to the podcast Wicked Problems today, and the guests wrote a book called Climate Majority Project, and they talked about the need for the truth, along with a way to process emotions, building community, and taking action. Seems like a good approach.

I had to call to update the payment information on a hospital bill that is set up on an automatic draft. Holy smokes! I now need a nap or a drink or both. (this is not even taking into account the fact that 3 days in the hospital costs as much as a 2013 Mini Cooper even with insurance)

Fleabane might be my favorite #wildflower if it were possible to choose a favorite. It's got that fabulous name - does it really repel fleas? - it blooms all summer, even into the fall, sometimes it looks pink or purple, and it's just so dang cheerful. We need a little cheer.

I think yelling "WE'RE DOING IT!!! IT'S HAPPENING!" is so much more motivating than saying, "Well, yeah, that's fine but everything still sucks." So thanks for sharing this chart. (of course I realize we have plenty more to do and things will still be iffy, but HOORAY for this progress)

The UAW vote at VW in Chattanooga is amazing. I live here and the anti-union campaign has been pretty gross. Billboards that say “UAW broke Detroit, don’t let it break Chattanooga” etc. Hooray for workers!
