I got into an argument with one of those over welding once. I am quite bad at welding. I’ve got an engineering degree and done enough welding to be dangerous and know my hard limitations. He seemed to believe that whacking 2 bits of steel together was ‘welding’. It’s a competent man problem.

I was halfway decent at machining metal. I was pretty good at structural analysis. Don’t ask me to attach different bits of metal together. Especially different bits of different metals.
