Yeah, this is the first big global news event in a decade that I haven’t tracked on Twitter or been able to. I have lists where I can track US political responses but the actual news is overwhelmed by bluecheck frauds and scammers, sharing videos from 2021 to get engagement/cash.
There was an entire-ass earthquake in Afghanistan killing thousands of people and I never saw shit about it on Twitter, only one AP article on Bluesky.

I spent the first half of Saturday scrolling through hundreds of idle thoughts about “what happened in Israel” and ultimately had to leave the app and go to NBC News’ website to learn what was actually happening.
I've been browsing newsnow.co.uk for multiple sources/viewpoints of news. It's not perfect, but I think I'm getting exposed to more than if I stick with the usual sources.
It's like when an old message board would implode. It's taking longer because it's so large. But the loss is larger because it's more consequential than the little fandoms and niche hobbies I used to watch this play out with
When I see a bluecheck now I quickly check if it’s a reliable source — like some real outlet/famous person who Elon gave a check to. If it isn’t I block it. Only way to avoid feed becoming clogged with midwits posting useless junk for engagement.

When the games are on, using search for clips and scores has been pointless for a very long time
At one point I was reporting the spam but it seemed like an exercise in futility
