I think it’s a part of the secret history of rock and roll that Kraftwerk got played on the biggest and most influential radio station in the US, WLS, because the station did their own novelty version of Autobahn and made it about Chicago: “flyin’ flyin’ flyin’ on the old Dan Ryan”.

A few reviews indicate that some Americans at the time heard it as a riff on the Beach Boys: "Fun fun fun on the Autobahn."
