There are plenty of instances of apparent eidetic memory, but yeah, it's nothing like the TV version. Some obviously is a mental ability to use a memory technique, but we published this. This guy ... very close? William James Sidis. His recall was incredible.

He memorized all traffic patterns for a major city and in his head designed a means of tracking the patterns that could be used to solve issues. Entire mass-transit schedules. Several languages in almost no time at all... and made up his own complete with grammar.
