i think i stopped watching debates in ~2012-2016 i really enjoyed the implicit myth that it was a real event for people to distinguish policies but the media treated it with much more pageantry, throwing out 95% of the substance, and i kept noticing that aspect getting worse

so talking about it online was fun, basking in that myth but the reality of how it was being presented, and how trump has abused that presentation to turn it into a complete spectacle out of institutional control it's just not worth it to engage with them now
