Movie Review: LONGLEGS
Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage put two of the year's best performances into this horrifying tale of good vs. evil. Writer/director Osgood Perkins is operating on several levels of art here, and this movie is gonna stay with you for a long time.

Put it to you this way: I watched my screener of BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F twice in one day. I really liked this one. Consider it the best of the BHC sequels; it's good enough to give the 1984 original a run for its money as best of the franchise.

MOVIE REVIEW: A Quiet Place: Day One Lupita Nyong'o's turns in this and US are among the most magnetic and powerful I've ever seen. Joseph Quinn is damn good, too. Together, they elevate this script past its lack of depth and make a full-on meal for us to enjoy. Review link in bio!

MOVIE REVIEW: Inside Out 2
As a parent of someone going through similar life changes, this one hit like a watermelon catapulted point-blank into a concrete wall. A perfect follow-up to INSIDE OUT. Stay for a post-credits scene.

MOVIE REVIEW - Bad Boys: Ride or Die
Not gonna lie, there's a lot that's similar to its predecessor. But the directing team of Adil & Bilall know how to amp up the action and make us cheer, man. For me, this is the best since the original.

The fourth in this nearly three-decade-long franchise. I love this series - even though the second stretched my ability to like it - and I'm looking forward to seeing the gang get buckwild again. Review of #BadBoys: #RideOrDie coming to DCFilmdom.com soon!

Watched this really beautiful movie about two former girlfriends reuniting for one's upcoming wedding. If only life were this expressive, nonjudgmental, and supportive. Here's my review of TELL THAT TO THE WINTER SEA: dcfilmdom.com/2024/05/tell...

My takes may not be the "right" ones, but they're MY takes, damn it. I enjoyed both of these - IN A VIOLENT NATURE for the subtle humor amid placid chaos and gore, SUMMER CAMP for watching three women having fun amid a ho-hum, predictable script. I've got one more coming. Read 'em at DCFilmdom.com!

Now at DCFilmdom.com: IN A VIOLENT NATURE
An entire slasher film from the killer's point of view. Picture an arthouse Jason Voorhees movie with kills that got those movies flagged with X ratings.

Movie Review: KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
A movie that says more about us than its apes. High art, social commentary, and smashing summer blockbuster. Equal to DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES in quality, innovation, and ability to pull you to it and never let go.

Look. You're not going into THE FALL GUY seeking depth. It's purely tongue-in-cheek fluff that's meant to entertain, and that's how I graded it. This movie is about the effort it takes for you, as a moviegoer, to say, "THAT was AWESOME!"

Starting today in DC, expanding elsewhere 4/5: Luc Besson's DOGMAN
dcfilmdom.com/2024/03/dogm...
I'm a Besson fan from the way back. Seeing him this dialed down and directionless is concerning, but as Tyler Durden said in FIGHT CLUB: "Hey, even the Mona Lisa's falling apart."

RESTORE POINT comes out in the UK on 4/1. It's already out over here; this review is for those of you who might've missed it. This fascinating Czech sci-fi thriller leans on films like BLADE RUNNER and MINORITY REPORT, but it's made fresh enough here.

Based on a play that reflects a darker side of the author's most famous creation. However, I chose to omit that in this review, because I believe the film is worth experiencing as its own thing.

A stunning masterpiece. Denis Villeneuve is one of the most visionary directors working right now; this film is more evidence supporting that statement, pulling us into Arrakis and those with their lives on the line with clarity and purpose.

I wish I'd seen THE TASTE OF THINGS (original French title: LA PASSION DE DODIN BOUFFANT) before awards season. Now in theaters, this is one of the best movies of the year annd one of the best I've seen. An absolutely beautiful balance of craft, character, and emotion.

Opening tonight: the story of one of humanity's true legends, BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE, an introduction for a new generation. Of course, there's more to the story, but it's a decent start, anchored by two powerful performances by Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch.

The fact that the filmmakers went with less-familiar faces for this filmed adaptation of the musical makes so much sense. And it makes a better film, IMHO. Read why.
