Scientists are learning more about just how bad heat waves and other extreme weather events can be for your health. One research team looked at nearly 500 studies and found links between high temperatures and cardiovascular disease.

Jeanette Toomer was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer after decades of using formaldehyde-based relaxers. She believes the cancer can be traced to her use of hair straighteners. “We were doing these perm relaxers with no idea that we were giving ourselves cancer all these many years.”
