Despite the B-17 being a concept that somehow became an operational bomber it was easy to fly, cheap and durable. The B-24 had better range, as proven in the Pacific, faster and could carry a larger bomb load, but needed an experienced heavy aircraft pilot at the helm to get the best out of her.

The Rambo Syndrome remains my top paper on a certain academic site, over a decade after it was written. This piece has been read the world over and was my gateway to far wider projects.
