we need a new system that is: easy to use, correctly collates & categorizes contributions, & IMPORTANTLY scratches the "first author, last author" heuristic itch so people can be appropriately credited -- in hiring/promotion, in collective perception, & in culture. ...5/n

nothing like unintentionally planning a work trip to end up exactly in the path of a total solar eclipse... at a random Ontario truck stop halfway btwn Detroit & London. shoutout to the #NSF lady at DCA for gifting me eclipse glasses since i forgot mine!

truly spectacular.

so apparently there's an eclipse today. coincidentally, i planned to fly from DC to Detroit and land an hour before the totality is due to hit the area for entirely non-eclipse reasons... and then forgot my eclipse glasses. but the nice woman from the NSF at my gate had a whole stack! thanks NSF!

when i was younger, i used to be afraid i'd eventually run out of ideas, wouldn't be creative enough to sustain a research program. problem is now i have way, way too many questions. it's really too bad humans need to sleep. we could do so much more cool stuff if we didn't need to sleep.
