Mijn boek staat in de NRC-boekenbijlage "Zin Zoeken": "34 toegankelijk geschreven hoofdstukjes waarin de auteur met digitale hulpmiddelen miljoenen pagina’s aan literatuur analyseert om te begrijpen hoe mensen in verschillende tijden en culturen zin geven aan hun bestaan."

We can draw inspiration from different practices in the world, especially if we want to arrive at a more strategic definition, as Wilson strives for. Just have a look what the German "Geisteswissenschaften", the French "Sciences humaines" or the Chinese "wen ren" include.

The definition by Jeffrey Wilson that "the humanities study the things humans make" does not do justice to global diversity. No essentialist definition will satisfy all humanities practices. We need a practice-based definition that looks at what humanities scholars actually do.

...the "humanities" can mean very different things in different parts of the world - even if we limit ourselves to the anglophone world. E.g., in some countries, the field of linguistics is part of humanities, in other countries it isn't. Same for anthropology and economics.

Zonder twijfel is "wetenschappelijk activisme" een vorm van valorisatie. Zo heeft 't activisme van @WOinActie bijgedragen tot de grootste valorisatie in 't WO ooit. Zonder WOinActie was er geen 1.3 miljard euro op jaarbasis bijgekomen. Kortom, valorisatie bij uitstek!
