One of our board members visited the orchard yesterday morning (6/16) and can confirm that there was no tractor on site, the field had not been mowed, and the birds were still present. 8/9

If it is true that the orchard has decided to delay haying until August, then this is a huge win for birds, as by August the nesting season should be winding down, and by mid August it should be over. 6/9

On Friday, the Chicago Tribune published a story in which a biologist with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources stated the orchard "had already decided to delay the haying of the land in question until August when the nesting season ends." www.chicagotribune.com/2024/06/14/c... 2/9

This is a disappointing response, suggesting it plans to continue with its mowing. This lot, used in the fall for overflow parking, is used for growing/harvesting hay in the spring/summer. 2/4
