My thoughts on the new Thou; it is scientifically proven to be stomach churning for maximum effect. (Listened to while I had an upset stomach from one iced coffee. Please remind to never consume coffee again.)

Of course we're going to hang in there - we have a lot of support from our readers and the industry and some BIG plans.
It's just so sad that the diversity of voices and innovative content that the early web fostered has been killed.

Read @zoeschiffer.bsky.social's interview on Platfomer with the Retro Dodo founder about how the Google HCU destroyed his business. I checked the Beat's search traffic and it's true. Google shot The Beat in Reno just to watch us die. Here comes "managed decline" and the return of gatekeepers.

I also saw someone compare Furiosa to Sergio Leone’s Once Upon A Time in the West and that feels right. As the follow up a paradigm shifting film, I don’t think it would ever live up to the expectations people had. Especially with what Miller did with the material.

It’s definitely not the adrenaline filled thrill ride that is Fury Road. It really is a far stranger and darker film. George Miller ruminates heavily on the nature of violence and vengeance in it. I hope he gets to make Mad Max: The Wasteland but this feels like a fitting coda to his career.

For me there was never anything else that would be #1. Phil Spector may have produced it but it’s Ronnie’s voice and the Wrecking Crew that send it soaring. “Be My Baby” is the perfect pop song. Maybe not a bold choice but the right #1 for me.

#2 “The Payback” is James Brown and The JBs as the perfect funk engine. It’s easy to forget just how powerful Brown was and why he remains one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

There are definitely better songs by The Kinks. But #3 “Sunny Afternoon” just perfectly captures that transition between the nasty young men of their early years and the biting social social satire of their peak.

As I start revealing my top five for the #Let5D0It, I’ve started compiling songs for the 1977-1999 list in the fall(?). Some initial thoughts
-JFC this is gonna be way harder
-Which songs will be on my list “twice” because of hip hop samples?
-Will 25% of this list be Wu-Tang & Wu-Tang solo acts?

We now enter the Top Five. Kicking off with #5 is Al Green. Picking just ONE song from that incredible run of 70s albums and singles was difficult. But “Here I Am (Come and Take Me)” might be peak Green.
